We have had a day of heavy rain – and we’re not used to this in the dry, sunny Mallee! So we were ready for some quiet time after lunch, and some relaxation.
Very simple – you could use a pointer but a beautiful feather is much more special (and probably safer!)
It’s the feather game!
Everyone goes down onto the floor – eyes closed – and then one person starts. In total silence, they touch someone on their skin. That person sits up, they receive the feather and the previous person goes and sits down outside the group. And so it goes. the goal is for nobody to speak.
It’s hard to stay silent when there are only a couple of people left to go, but this is great practice in controlling that impulse and to respect other children’s need for quiet while they wait for the lightest of touches somewhere on their skin.
I like this game … think I might have to ‘borrow’ this one!
Thanks for sharing.
Donna 🙂 🙂
P.S. Did you say RAIN? woooohoooooo for the rain!!!
Yes, really, RAIN!!!!!
The game started off with one child touching everyone, but I love the fact that they came up with the much more inclusive variation of passing the feather on…
This is lovely. It would be a great activity for ‘touch’ when we look at our 5 senses. Thank you.
Glad you like it – sensory activities are such winners! 🙂
