Goodbye 2010!

What a busy year with so much focus, learning and fun all wrapped up together…

The children have been busy…messy…thoughtful…intense…helpful… friendly….sometimes sad … sometimes joyful…sometimes excited! But we can be silly too…..

Thankyou to everyone who has visited the blog and commented on it or said something to us about it….

We are all taking a good break for a little while over the Christmas season.

We  hope that your special time with family and friends is peaceful and joyful, whatever your special beliefs may be.

We remember  the children who have been a part of our kinder this year but have moved elsewhere since then  – Brad and Remy and Bella – and we wish all  children (and their families!) going onto school all the very best as they head off into their future…

Have a wonderful 2011

stained glass windows

Lately we have had some children remembering and using again the ideas of folding and cutting to create an interesting pattern with different colored paper, so we got out the old favourite cellophane to make some  stained glass windows.

Monday Week 10 Term 4 021

This needs 2 pieces of black paper to be folded together and then cut (we cut them into an oval first).

Some children just cut, others drew some shapes first.

Monday Week 10 Term 4 022

Then they selected the color they wanted to make that “window”, pasted around the outside of the cutouts and stuck the cellophane on.

Monday Week 10 Term 4 014

This job had several steps to it and took concentration and finger strength – Ryan knows how to concentrate!

Monday Week 10 Term 4 024

and the finished product is as individual as they are.

Geometry and Christmas decorations

The peg geoboards continue to attract  interest – shapes are on our minds

Thursday Week 10 Term 4 008

so exploring geometry in the name of Christmas decorations seemed like a good idea.

Along the way we tried out other shapes….

Thursday Week 10 Term 4 033

Elliott and Chloe like to use the correct term for this one – it’s not a diamond, but a  rhombus.

And Christmas stars made out of triangles helps us to realise that a triangle is till a triangle even when it’s “upside down” (as Jade says)

Thursday Week 10 Term 4 036

Of course the shape is just the start….

Thursday Week 10 Term 4 038

now the fun begins….
