the way play looks today

Play  is so many different ways of being and interacting with the world. How do we create opportunities for a range of play - how interesting is it? How much choice and self direction is there?

Magnifying glass bingo – for the children who are keen to use this new science tool. It quickly became self directed and enjoyable

Block play for the budding town planners and architects …..

Engineers building a water machine…

Setting up their own office spaces with their chosen props; catching up on the phone….

focussing on sensory and manipulative play with marble scooping in water ….

or hopping on the kinder bus, sharing and contributing ideas,  letting the baby drive it.

I like that marble scooping game. We might try that at Manangatang this week. We have finished with our measuring with water beads.

I hope your kids like it – it’s a gentle and relaxing manipulative activity that works well on hot days.

Hi Louise, Looks like lots of fun. Is the Magnifying Glass Bingo a purchased game or something you made yourself. My kiddies are very into magnifying glasses right now.

Kerry, I made it from a PDF that some kind teacher put up on their blog years ago – not sure if it’s even on my current computer – but the basic idea is to find an image and shrink it, then use a matching image for the board. Yes, it’s a good game for the start of the year when the children are excited abouyt using magnifying glasses.
