Tech problems

Yes, it happened – the camera was dropped (though not by a child) and we are waiting on a replacement. That involves a 300 km round trip for me to choose one and pay and then wait and go back again to collect it.

So no photos.

In the meantime, I want to share a resource that I have stumbled across – with FREE teaching resources around outside education in early childhood and schools.

It’s a UK organisation called Learning through Landscapes and some resources, including tip sheets, are free. It is well worth a look. For lucky UK readers, they can join and as members will get access to many more resources and training opportunities. But even for me down under, it’s got value.

Rainy days in Ouyen

We have had some rain! and everyone is happy (especially the farmers and the farmers’ children!)

On Thursday we just couldn’t stay inside – it was too exciting! We did stay under cover of the verandah and the sand pit – or tried to…

016

We noticed the water coming down off the roof and through the pipe onto the garden.

And we made rainy day paintings – which we have not had a chance to do up until now…

First sprinkle powdered food color onto paper….

017

Then place in the rain…

018

and let the raindrops do the rest.

025

A different sort of rainy day art was to do chalk drawings on the wet cement – the colors were much brighter!

024

….but hardly anyone comes to kinder with a raincoat, even when it’s raining in the morning, before people leave home.

So we thought about what the Scandinavians say – there’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing….

and we have bought light rain coats for everyone (they need to be shortened a bit…)

so now we can play outside any time, as long as it isn’t a flood!
