In our last term each year, we offer a little taste of kinder to children who will be coming next year. In this pre-K session, once a week, the adults and children start to get to know each other within the new kinder environment. It’s a lovely time as we start to get to know each other and our special interests and abilities. Lots of sensory and simple open-ended play starts here.
This week we had buckets of water and paintbrushes out with pavement chalk. Chalk makes marks, marks become drawings, drawings start to tell stories.
There was a story about Louise being out in the boat – Tom drew a boat – but not Louise – Tom said she was asleep in the boat. But he drew a fish in the river and a line going up to the boat – Louise still wasn’t waking up! Then a storm was coming – luckily Letitia washed the blue chalk away so the water couldn’t swamp the boat!
Humour, imagination, real knowledge about fishing, storytelling and mark making. A lovely shared time as we get to know each other.
