A note about our kinder…..we are proud to be Australians! Ouyen Preschool is a small country kindergarten serving the town of Ouyen and surrounding areas of the Victorian Mallee. We offer 15 hours of kinder a week. In 2015 we expect to have 22 children enrolled.  We work closely with our fantastic parents to support the children as they learn and develop,  and we welcome the involvement of “special visitors” and volunteers from families and the wider community.

Our Teacher is Louise Fitzpatrick Leach and Assistant Educator is Bev Cummings.

Kinder sessions are Monday , Tuesday and Thursday  from 8.45 to 1.45.

We place central value on supporting children’s wellbeing, their holistic learning,  active play  and healthy life habits. Active play means  that children need to be dressed in “play-safe” clothes that are Sunsmart and suitable for running, jumping, digging, climbing, rolling – in other words, for children to be children……so please, no long dresses or scuff-type sandals or thongs that might make such playing hard to do.

We are members of the Victorian Achievement Program and have a healthy eating policy – fruit and veg snacks are best! Raw or cold cooked vegs, and small pieces of fruit look inviting and taste great! (Nuts are not okay , although  they are a healthy food, and we don’t have any children with dietary allergies – we have decided that it’s not worth the risk). We do lots of gardening and love to eat what we grow.

And we care about our environment, so we continue to learn more about the world around us, and how we fit in.

The kinder has the option of kinder polo shirts, and tops for winter, which is  not compulsory but which many parents find takes the angst out of choosing what to wear. Please order from Country Clothing in Ouyen.

We also love to find out about other people and where they come from – so please leave us a comment on the home page!

  1. Hello to everyone at the Ouyen Kinder. My name is Anne-Marie and I work with 4 year old children at the Monash Kindergarten. It would take you a long time to drive there. This week at our kindy we have just named our pet fish “Shiny”.
I have been lucky that Louise has sent me your Blog address so I can see what you have been doing at kinder.
It looks like you have been having lots of fun with your learning. Have a wonderful day with your friends and teachers.

  2. Thankyou for visiting our blog, Anne-MArie, I know how many interesting things your kinder people do over in Monash, so I am glad they could see what we do!

  3. Hello everyone,
I love you so much and will always be your friend. My new kinder has lots of climbing things and I have a new friend who’s name is Declan. It is not as big as Ouyen and we don’t have a trike path but we have a vegetable garden, we used to have 2 chooks and 2 rabbits but they have gone to a farm. We have a new treasure box that we take turns in taking home then putting our special treasures in to take to kinder and show all of our friends
I have got my new baby, her name is Amélie, she was born last week. She is beautiful and I love her very much and I call her Little Miss Muffet.
I would like to see you too.
We had a visit from a dancing Chinese dragon, it was lots of fun. We did lots of dancing.
I am learning Muay Thai and I go to a gym every Tuesday.
    How are going?
    Love from Rémy.

  4. Dear Remy, thankyou for your letter and we are all so excited to hear about Amelie! (but we don’t know how to put the little mark above the first “e” in her name!). Your kinder sounds wonderful!
Lots of love, Mrs Leach, Mrs Bell and all the kinder kids.

  5. Louise and Elaine,
What an amazing learning journey you provide and encounter with children. It is wonderfully refreshing to see how you enact the emergent curriculum taking into account the interests, learning and development of children. Would love to come and visit you if that is a possibility?
    Might give you a call.
    Sharryn
