At work in the workshop

We talked about signs and posters – we needed to show what sort of workshop it is. There was a flurry of activity.

Wild Action 030

Most of the children wanted to make tractor posters – we are in the Mallee after all!  Practical words like fix and jobs and workers were used. Immie remembered the message from farm safety, she made a warning sign about danger when tractors are moving.

There was some discussion when we were setting up the workshop about girls not being able to go in, because they don’t work in a workshop. The girls didn’t agree….

But there was plenty of room for the boys still.

setting up the kinder workshop

The home corner hasn’t had much activity lately, so it’s time to try something new. We had a talk about what the children’s ideas might be for another play space – it came down to a workshop (which links in with farm safety activities and ideas) or a lolly shop. We thought we might have to take a count, but Elliott suggested that we could have the workshop inside and the lolly shop outside (she was voting for the lolly shop) – what a great way to compromise! Everyone was happy…. so we started to clear out the furniture, dolls and so on. It looks pretty bare right now but the children have already started to fix it up…goggles from the woodwork, headphones(ear muffs) from the music, old hairdryers for drills, and of course box and tube constructions…for Benjamin’s jack which he needed to jack up the TV before William could work on it….

We have been given some big boxes from the electrician and we have been saving our cardboard cylinders – so much discussion, problem solving, imagining, planning, independent or cooperative work out of a box and a tube or two  ….or just the tube sometimes…

So boxes and tubes can be…

The Preps visit us….

kinders and Preps together

Kinders and Preps togetherOn Thursday the Preps came up for a visit. They noticed that some things were different from last year, especially the new trike path - which they had been involved with planning last year. They were very keen to have a go on the trikes around the new path. But first they did a play for us of Hattie and the Fox.Acting out the story.

Then it was off outside for a play and a turn on the trikes.

It was a happy visit with lots of information about the school and how much fun it is  – thankyou for coming to visit us, Preps!

We went down to the Primary campus this week to watch a performance of the Bremen Town Musicians. It was a great way to start our transition program for the year. We found out about the bubblers and the different toilets…

The Primary school has got lots of buildings - we went into the Multi-Purpose Room.

We had to go into the Multi-Purpose Room.

Mike and Muriel were the actors and we all did some moving together.

We thought the Bremen Town Musicians were very funny!

This was a great way to start off our transition program – the performance was excellent, the children were relaxed and very proud to be a part of the whole school audience.
