Fire fighters

Fire fighters have been busy at kinder…

One of the dads has been away fighting the fires in another part of the state – and other dads are on their local fire brigades – so it’s not surprising that some of the children have been playing fire fighters.

Here Fireman Boden is talking Tyrone down from a burning building: “one step at a time”.

The right props are important – vacuum cleaner hoses , old phones… The fire phone has to be red  – that means negotiating with Milly and Maggie who had already started to use it in their office work…

When the group talked about what we already knew about fire fighters we found that there was a lot of interest in building a fire truck.

Our fire truck started out as a box.

Now it’s starting to look more like a fire truck…

Adding some finishing touches…

and Ollie is ready for action.

the way play looks today

Play  is so many different ways of being and interacting with the world. How do we create opportunities for a range of play – how interesting is it? How much choice and self direction is there?

Magnifying glass bingo – for the children who are keen to use this new science tool. It quickly became self directed and enjoyable

Block play for the budding town planners and architects …..

Engineers building a water machine…

Setting up their own office spaces with their chosen props; catching up on the phone….

focussing on sensory and manipulative play with marble scooping in water ….

or hopping on the kinder bus, sharing and contributing ideas,  letting the baby drive it.
